Question Oil Pressure Switch thread?

I'm having a helluva time finding the right oil pressure switch for a '96 Ford F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel.

Parts stores are giving me sensors that look about right, except the thread is slightly too big.
No parts vendors can tell me what thread theirs are and I can't find information on this after much searching.

My sensor is the o-ring type, with 7/16-20 thread.

Can anyone here please tell me what exact part number I need?
Thanks.

I see their part number is F6TZ9278AA, which is the same interchange part number as the Rostra 501327 I already ordered, and it's the one in the picture with the wrong thread...

What about 95-98? Do you think the HPOP reservoir cover was replaced? Here are some pics of it from a while back, when I had the engine out. As far as I know though, it's all original, but I could be wrong...

94.5 95 dont use an oring

96 and 97 does have oring

there is no 98 7.3 but some 97s were sold as 98

possible HPOP cover was replaced at one time and a universal switch was put on but you never know with Ford

Are we sure this is not a aftermarket vs OEM problem? Mic the diameter and call Riffraff and politely explain the issue and see if they will mic the one they stock.

The part number on the HPOP reservoir cover is 1823534C2, looks original. I have a thread-checker kit which I used and already know the exact thread I need, it's 7/16-20.

Perhaps someone with an old oil pressure switch laying around can check the thread on theirs and see if it happens to have a part number printed on it to share?
I will try out RiffRaff... Thanks.

So I thought maybe someone used a Helicoil or something, but it doesn't look like it. I don't know why the thread on mine is smaller than everyone elses, but the standard replacement doesn't work. FWIW, I think the oil pressure switch's thread is supposed to be M12x1.25. That's what my new incorrect replacement sensor has. But for whatever reason, my HPOP reservoir hole thread is 7/16-20, and I have no idea what sensor/switch I have since there's no part number printed on it. Weird.

My old mill was a late build 95 and had the 5/16 pipe thread. Maybe someone with a 96-97 7.3 can post a pic of their timing cover.

Just for reference here's my timing cover and oil pressure switch.

Good pics and info, Z31freakify. At first I was thinking maybe an older HPOP reservoir/timing cover was swapped onto mine, but I see yours has a different part number and uses a sensor without o-ring(seals on threads). I think that's the older OBS configuration.

I believe I've found a solution though. I welded together some parts I had laying around the garage and made myself a 7/16-20 male to M12x1.25 female adapter, lol. Will have to use teflon but no big deal. Not sure what else to do at this point.. quite a mystery that mine has different thread and an unknown sensor, which are apparently OEM, yet different than everyone else's. Will call it done and be happy I got the thing replaced finally. Can't really complain.

Also nice to see a fellow NM dweller here... I am in Albuquerque.

use teflon pipe dope if possible, teflon tape can get stuck in things when it falls off

I can't speak of your aftermarket sensor but our genuine Ford Motorcraft F6TZ-9728-AA sensor is a 7/16 - 20 thread with o-ring seal.

Did you find solution?

Did you ever find the correct sending unit? I have the exact same problem. I purchased my truck brand new in 1995 so I know nothing has been changed or modified regarding HPOP, it is original to the truck. Does anyone have part number for older, non-O-ring style sending unit?
