Talk to me about tires…I’ve settled on swapping my 16.5 wheels for some 16x7 econoline steelies to hold me over until I scrounge a set of 16x6 innies. I would like to run a classic looking “traction” tire, A/T or M/T radial on a 2WD F250.
Current tire is a 9.50x16.5 which measures close to a 245/75-16. Does a 235/85-16 fit, looks like it’s an inch taller?
Been going 🤪 looking at pictures of tires and forum searches…show me what you’re running?
Couple of options I’ve considered Toyo M55 (if my wholesale connection can source them), Falken Wildpeak M/T, Firestone Destination M/T2, Nexen Roadian M/T (235/85 only)
I got the Falken Wildpeak AT3w 235/75/15 extra load, cause I couldn't find a set of 16"wheels in time for the F100 Western Nat last year so they have a few miles on my daily driver. It has been raining cats and dogs in Southern California lately and I have grown to love these tires. Puddles on the edge of the freeway that used to make my butt pucker at 60 now make me comfortable at 70. I can barely break the back tires loose in the rain, but I can smoke them for half a block on dry. i have not lost traction on anything without trying to. Seem to be wearing great with regular rotations, not much noise on the freeway, from what the headers let me hear. got a fair price at tirerack. if you get a wheel tire combo from them they'll mount & balance and ship to your door.
I have not been compensated by Falken tires or tirerack, these are my thoughts only.
Running BFG AT 265x75 16 E-rated. Put them on in 2015. Dodge 16x7 wheels. I drive 5 days a week about 100-200mi and they are about half way down. Never had a problem and don't even carry a spare. I went with a taller tire to offset the 410 gears which allows it to cruise 65-70mph @ 3000rpms.

That's a beautiful truck Christmas.
I went with the tallest 15 I could get to fit my stock wheels with 3.70 gears and overdrive @3000 rpm I'm somewhere over 90 and I can take both hands off the wheel.
Hey mmthskibum,
I run 16" Michelin radial tires & radial inner tubes on my '65 2WD F100. Tire size...LT215/85R16. I have a 300 with a HD4 speed & 3.70 r&p. Runs smooth as silk.
These tires will be 10 yrs old in June. When I am not using my truck I put plywood over the tires to slow down dry rot from the sun. Seems to be working. Not one crack in the side walls. Still lots of tread. I also rotate them every other oil change.
All the best, Pete

Do you have any photos of your truck? I am thinking of running 215/85-16's on my 64 F250. I am trying to find a tire that does not look too "modern" in that size. I am finally going to get my innie 16's mounted soon. I have been looking at the General Grabber HD or Michelins. . I am thinking about running a pair of the Toyo M-55's on my extra 2 wheels and having them studded for winter use. Thanks
Hi,
Sorry to take so long with pics. Here they are. As you can see my truck is my portable fab shop. The "box" behind the cab keeps the Miller eng. generator welder out of the weather. The diesel tank is to fill up my mini-hoe. That comes off when welding takes place. My truck weighs in @ 5,300 #'s...or 300# past the 5,000 GVW. Had a 300 put in two weeks ago. Way stronger than the trusty 240. It got me around for 31 yrs...169,000 miles. I live in a county that wanted to tax me $600.00 per year for the county vehicle tax. They thought my truck was all perty n stuff. Naw, the appearance does not affect performance. The little bldg behind is where my hoe will be stored. 62 miles one way. 42 miles Interstate...20 miles two lane. A great cruise round trip. Need to say...I check tire pressure once a month, whether I want to or not. (spare too). All the best, Pete
