Shock Absorber Question

I have a 2017 F350 6.7 with 63k miles, about 40k towing a 13k 5th wheel. I installed Rancho RS9000XL shocks at 5k miles. How long should I expect them to last? On a car, I can use jump on it to check, not so much on the truck. There does seem to be some bounce in the rear end while towing, but can't tell if it's the California cement roads of shocks not doing their job.

I know it's a hard question to answer, but any help wold be appreciated.

Thanks

Undo the bottom bolt and see if it's dead, really the only way unless it's leaking.

I've had a pair of RS 9k's on My 00 Rodeo for over 15 yrs, and all I ever needed was to clean and free up a stuck valve. It is one of the few shocks that have been, mostly trouble free and is still in service. I love em Mike/EZ

Without a shock dyno, and most of us can't afford one, I really don't know of a good way to tell. I suppose you can buy a new one and push both down and see if they rise at the same rate or not.

Tire wear will be a BIG indicator. Otherwise you are going to need to remove the shock for inspection.

Can you please explain that? Not sure how tire wear indicates shock wear.

I installed the same shocks on a 2012 F250 and they lasted 72,000 miles. Had one lose all the fluid and then the noise started.

I would just ask Siri, she knows everything.

No but seriously I would inspect them for excessive leakage and if they are not leaking and the truck drivers ok I’d just keep running them.

You could also ask Rancho, but they’ll probably tell you to change them.

I've had shocks that do not leak but do not dampen like they should. Same car, different sides.

Tire cupping can be a sign that your shock absorbers are junk.

My experience is that tires will also cup if they aren’t rotated enough though. Especially mud tires.

Compress 3 shocks. Left, right and brand new one. See how they feel going down and coming up.

Yeah, I replaced the stock shocks on my 2004 Silverado 2500 at 70k miles. I noticed that one of them wouldn’t fully extend. They never did leak and it drove fine. Installed Bilstein 5100’s and there was only slight almost unnoticeable difference.
