In my 78 F100, I have some after market gauges, one of which is a temp gauge. I'd like to get the dash gauge working again, even if it's redundant. From what I can tell, each gauge (stock and after market) have separate temp sensor sending units. Before I replace the dash unit, can you confirm I'm correct about the two temp units?
After market unit - at rear of engine:
Stock dash unit - At front of engine, just right of distributor:
Normal stock location right behind distributor in front crossover.
You should be fine. The aftermarket is in a cooler location. Water hasn't passed through the heads yet, that's just my opinion.

That's interesting. That gauge always runs low - The thermostat is 180-deg, but it's hard to get that gauge at or above 180.
