Has anyone received the latest "idle" flash since the "fix-all" flash? Did it eliminate the rolling idle and/or rough idle? Also, did it help with the vibration @ idle I received after the "fix-all" flash?
I received the "fix-all" flash @ the beginning of October. I have continued to have random/sporatic idle issues, "rolling" and "surging", as well as a distinct vibration @ idle while in gear. Last week my service advisor contacted me and informed me about a new flash that has just been released with the last week that addresses the ongoing idle issues. He said that it has resolved all of the idle issues left over from the "fix-all" flash.
Had the latest and greatest flash for our 6.0 Ex on November 7th. Had the rough, "chugging", smoking starts as well as the "dead" pedal. Also, in warm weather I had a lot of black smoke under acceleration. Our motor had build date of 3-20-03. I had been waiting for the flash that finally fixes all the problems. Since the flash, it's GREAT!! The starts are quick, smooth, and just a small amount of smoke. NO "dead" pedal, instant acceleration! No more smoke under acceleration. Fuel mileage hasn't changed at all, 15.5 to 17 mpg in town. I had as high as 21.1 mpg highway at 80 mph before the flash. Haven't been on road trip since the flash. If you haven't gotten it yet, and need it, go for it! It's been great for us!!
Purchased my 2003 F350 6.0L in March 2003. Seemed to run fine with no idle problems, good power, and 20 mpg running solo. Told the dealer at that time that I was very impressed with the 6.0L but unhappy with the way it drove. They advised a front end alignment but that didn't help.
Received a recall for the "idle" problem around May and it was reflashed. This brought on the idle problem and mileage dropped to 18 mpg solo and 10 with a 29 ft 5th wheel in tow.
Truck still wanders all over and has an oil drip that they can't seem to to fix. Back to Ford in November for the these two problems and they flashed new code which fixed the startup and idle problems but dropped the mileage to 16-17 mpg and very noisy operation. Also found a bad injector.
Parked next to an idling 7.3L yesterday and was amazed how quiet it was compared to my clattering monster.
Going back to Ford this week and see if I can't get back to where I was when I got the truck. So far very unhappy with the truck but with so much invested have to live with it.
rough idle (that was intermittant for me) cured, has never hapened again. (it really never bother me....it is not an MBZ for chstsakes)
never HAD smoke at startup, now it puffs some white for a half second or so. ( but i could not care less)
dead pedal happend 3-5 times pre-flash (this is a big f%^$%n problem for me!) has not happened since, i did not think that prob was even addressed with this flash tho...
startup is slower, quieter, but again, i never cared about the noise, if i did, why would i have bought an oil burner?
idle is WAY louder than before. it was nice when quieter, but not a reason to really complain now.
milage seems to have stayed about the same
diesel smell at idle, and in cab is far stroner than before. it was always there, but never strong. it could case nausea in some people im sure, it's that much stronger. again tho, i don't care that much.....i kinda like it.
power, about the same. more throttle input needed now, but all the power is still there, maybe a slight bit of boost lower in the rpm band, and therefore more torque at very low rpm...
overall, i would not say the flash is a must. if you cannot live with noise (why did you buy a diesel?), cant stand the smell of diesel exhaust, or are going to faint when you see a puff of white smoke out the exhaust at startup, you better keep the pre-oct flash!!!
