Hi everyone. My driver heating and cooling seat hasn’t been working for some time. A few days ago I had a garage performing a Forscan check and found out the blowing motor under the cushion has gone bad. Error called “thermo electric load open…”. I’ve searched and found detailed explanatory videos on how to replace the TED under the cushion. Some suggest to replace both TEDs at the same time, the one under the cushion and the one in the back of the seat cause if one goes bad the other might follow. The job as taking the seat out of the car and replace both TEDs seems not difficult. So far so good.
My question is after reassembling the seat and having hooked all harnesses back in place, can I start the car and use heating and cooling seats or do you need Forscan to clear all faulty codes first?
Thanks
Forscan is free for 30 days (I think ) and very inexpensive to buy a 1 year license. The hardware to connect your laptop to the obdii port is $30-$80 depending on what you buy.
In total pretty cheap and you something you can read and clear all future codes that may pop up. Just spend the $30
You're correct I don't have Forscan. You say after a while the truck will reset the fault codes of the TEDs by itself if not done via Forscan?
I don't know if THAT specific code will clear itself. Some codes do clear themselves. In other words, run with it and see if it clears on its own. If it doesn't then you'll need to see the dealer or buy FORScan. The definitive thread for coming up to speed on FORScan can be found in the link below.
