Edit: Found the left clip wasn’t seated. For it secured. Think it will be ok for now. May order new one just to be safe. pic below after I got it seated.
Searched threads and didn't see anything that matches what I have going on. Was working on my truck and found the passenger floor carpet was wet under floor mat. Assumed it was sunroof drains. Went by my friend's windshield shop and they flushed them, no blockages and they drained correctly. Upon further inspection the entire passenger side is wet all the way back to the rear cab vent. There is a gap at the top of the vent and when water is sprayed on the rear window and allowed to drain down it runs right into the gap and into the cab.
What is the solution? Remove and replace them? Truck is just over 2 years old. 21 450 pickup.
I've read it can be done from inside the cab and I've also read the bed would have to be unbolted and slid back.
What is the play? Thanks in advance.
You didn't look very hard. This gets brought up in just about every water leak thread and there have been YouTube videos discussing it. If it were mine I would first try from the inside. The idea is to get all the clips to fully and firmly hold. Your situation doesn't sound any different than what some others have found. It's usually one of 3 things, vent installed upside down, not seated completely at assembly, or faulty in some way, like weak or broken clips.

3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty, take it in and get it fixed for free.
I agree, do it right, do it yourself. It's a well known issue and seems like because it is out of sight on final departure/shipping/delivery inspections, no one really checks. If Ford was keen on improving quality they need to add a check for the vent's snugness and possibly add a think line of sealant before the bed is put on.

Edit: My apologies as I used the search bar here in the forum. Should have just googled it. I'm finding plenty now and the video below is super helpful as well.
How about one link that does mention the cab vents?
I found lots of threads but none mentioned these vents. I've never seen it brought up in any water leak thread either. I read lots of them because this is the kind of thing I get to deal with that most don't. For the record I've been a member here since my first SD in 2018 actually prior to buying it. I'm well aware of the water intrusion in that area from the doors in the 17-19 model years as well.
I'll see if I can find anything showing what you mentioned. On this vent the very center is pulled away from the cab but the edges are seated well. Maybe it's a broken clip who knows. I do know the leaking is new and we have had lots of rain this winter.
I'm dealing with this problem right now on my 22 F350. First dealer visit (8/2022) they "resealed" the door seals and "replaced" wet insulation under flooring(vinyl mat not carpet). It didn't rain much over the summer but after the first big rain, the floors were soaked again. When I pulled the door sills and looked under the flooring I found the insulation they "replaced" was just them cutting out the factory insulation and adding some random insulation. I started searching forums and Youtube for others with the problem. That got me looking at the cab vents and I found one tab not locked in properly but both vent leaking. I popped the vent back in and used a small piece of wood to wedge the vents in tighter. It seamed to work for a short time. I tried to get it looked at again but they couldn't get it in for a month. That's about when we were headed back south for the winter, so I had to wait until we got settled again. Dealer down here made an appointment for 1 1/2 months out. They checked the vents and orders new ones(mid January). I dopped the truck off the following week and after 3 days they had me pick it up since the parts didn't come in. The following week both vents had came in and I again dropped the truck off.. By now the cab has a horrible smell and mildew growing on the back wall panel. They kept the truck for almost 3 weeks. They pulled the bed (factory spray in bed liner, bed bolts now stripped of coating) to replace the cab vents, removed the seats and trim, disinfected mold and dried the flooring and back panel. I demanded new flooring and back wall trim panel but the dealer claims that Ford declined replacement and said it must first be disinfected and dried out, if the mildew returns then they will consider replacement. I got the call yesterday(2/18/23) that my truck was fixed and ready to be picked up. So I'm pissed about the flooring not being replaced but at least the leak is fixed and interior is dried and clean. Wrong!! Strong bleach smell, dirty boot prints all over the floor and what ever they used to disinfect has washed out the color of the vinyl mat flooring. Now the black floor looks chalky grey. Best the service manager could do was detail the truck and wipe the floor down with something like Armor-All. Just give me my damn truck back and I'm calling Ford, I'll be back for new flooring! So it rains overnight last night and I go check the new vents this morning. The passenger cab vent is leaking and the floor is starting to get wet again!! Didn't even make it 12 hours. Pretty obvious the tech didn't verify his fix before reassembling everything. Not surprising seeing the condition the floor was in when I picked it up. I headed back to the dealer on my way to work and found a "bonus screw" laying in the cupholder. Needless to say that the service manager had a "nice" conversation with me to start his Friday off. Dropping it back off Monday morning....the fun continues.
Thanks for posting that. A friend of mine ran his Weboost cable through the vent. I sent him a link to the video, just in case he dislodged the vent assemble.
Update: removed the rear carpet to access the vent. Sure enough the left clip was not seated correctly. I was able to pull it in so it clipped in place. Poured a bottle of water over the vent and still got water in. So I wiggled it around and it seated fully. Poured a gallon over the vent and no more water.
Now to get a dehumidifier to dry out the carpets that I already needed for the rv anyway so win win.
