Dyno test ?

Hey all;
Not sure of the correct term or name but want to check the rig to see if the performance ; i.e accerlation, idle; comptession, etc. is up to snuff. Is this referred to as a systems test or other? No problems yet (Knock on..) to speak of but I wouldn't be able to notice drops in performance if any existed.

A chassis dyno would be the best to see what power is getting to the wheels. I will be dynoing my 82 when I get around to rebuilding and sprucing up my old 302.

An inertial load chassis dyno will give you realistic loading and
power/torque readings.

hey dutch123,
i noticed that you have bassani headers. how do you like them? i am thinking about headers as the next addon for my truck, and found some for $370- with gaskets, hardware and instructions included. thanks, wb

billybob; the headers are terrific. Noticeable gains in takeoff and more "efficient"? running engine; (dont know how to describe it) I like the idea of less back pressure as well. Also; get on her up there about 3500rpm's and step on it and it responds. I dont ballout the rig but I found myself getting on the brakes quicker because I was accerlating quicker and I dont think it was because of me and the new headers; so, watch out; no jokel

Yes, this was by far the best bolt on investment; coupled with the Bassani Y-pipe;

dutch,
that's exactly what i wanted to hear. those effects described are similar to that of my k and n filter, hence those of the headers will be greater. i already have a flowmaster on my truck, so i guess it'll have an even more unique sound to it. how does the price ($370) compare to what you paid? i found them on the 'net, they are described as being 'equalength headers'. what is that?
thanks again,
-wb

yeah,
teh regular chrome ones are $370.50 plus shipping. the HTC coated ones are $465.50 plus shipping. as found on proficientperformance.com. i like the idea of the 'never changing appearance' of the HTc coat. did you notice any change in your mileage? -wb

Regarding mileage; I do hi-way; so maybe 1mpg more; the city was at first bad because I was scooting around.. heavy on the throttle after that maybe a mile also. maybe 13 in the city (maybe) 28.5 gal to fill with 385 mile burned so, what is that MPG? about 13- I guess. Weird thing is I do 60 on th Hway long distance 65 miles each way. And I got 17; what's with that.

what is it that seems strange about getting 17 on the highway doing 60? that sounds about right to me, i average 13-14 with regular driving, and got about 17 on my best tank doing hightway between 65-75 mph. not sure what you mean by whats with that.

my dad recently had to drive my bronco on a trip (he was bringing it to me after tranny overhaul) and calculated the mileage to be 19.85 mpg. that's mostly city driving (huntsville, al to anniston, al; hwy 431) with stop lights and such. roughly 300 miles or so, i don't recall the actual distance. -wb

yea. i remember having discusions about this a few years back, and people have managed up into the 20-21 range under the right conditions wiht the right modifications. it seems crazy, but its possible if you can keep ur foot off the floor and cruise at a reasonable speed. Another key factor i remember most of the high mpg trucks haveing was a good coil, namely the msd. i htink that was over on a different forum, but i am sure there have been discusions on here too. i used to average 17-18 mpg with my 84 302 4 speed with 88 injection on it.
