Park Aid / Rear backup sensors
Park Aid / Rear backup sensors
This is my first post, I looked and could not find information on these sensors in the rear bumper. Any experiences would be helpful and appreciate it.
I have a 2022 King Ranch 4x4 CCSWB 6.7 powerstroke with the rear parking sensors. I just got the truck about a week ago and 1 of the first things I did was put in my weight distribution hitch. (Waiting till 1000 miles per manual to tow) I normally tow our camper 90 percent of the time and on my previous truck just left the hitch in 100% of the time. After I installed the hitch I started noticing that the parking sensors would stay on continuously when in reverse, regardless if something was behind me or not. I finally changed out to a regular hitch and the problem went away sensors behave as they should. I'm going to the dealer later this week and wanted to know if there is away around this issue other than removing the weight distribution hitch every time I tow or this should not happen at all and something is wrong/ needs adjust with the sensors? Does anybody else have this issue? The way the sensors work with my distribution hitch makes this unusable? Suggestions?

Mine was doing the same thing, took it to the dealer and they decided it was my drop hitch setting it off.
Took it out and it quit.
I don't know if they changed something but after I got it back, I reinstalled the drop hitch and it hasn't been setting off the sensors anymore.
Now, my drop hitch isn't as large as the WDH hitch, so I could see that being more of a problem.

As mentioned already, you will have to turn the sensors off when you have the hitch in the receiver.
You can work around this by installing a dummy trailer plug....search the internet and you can probably find how to make one. Some guys leave it plugged inside the bed if you have that option.

Come on now - back up sensors are for amateurs.
You have 2 choices...leave the hitch in or take it off when not towing.

Nothing is fool proof and those incidents are tragic but rare. As someone who has driven for over 36 years and some of that as a CDL driver, I have only had one accident when I was 18. We certainly didn't have fancy back up cameras, 360 view, and sensors for backing and pulling in forward for many of those years. Although I do like those creature comforts I can still pull my truck forward and know how close I can get to whatever is front of me without hitting it without a silly sensor - all drivers of these HD trucks should know how as well. What if the system fails - you stop driving it?
I hope you are not relying on technology to prevent accidents alone. I use to keep my WDH hitch connected and my rear parking sensors off all the time because sometimes I would need it and not the gooseneck and pulling it off and putting it back on was a pain if you do that a few times in a week. Now I only use Gooseneck hook ups so that is not an issue for me. I am not reliant on my back up camera and ParkSense, or whatever Ford calls it, alone to ensure I am not hitting anything or anyone while in reverse...you shouldn't be either.
Well, You should be looking in your back up camera as well then right? Or maybe do a walk around before getting in your car/truck to drive off... I mean it could be things left behind your truck like bikes, toys etc...

Well he has a choice, remove the hitch when not in use, or turn the sensors off. That is his decision to make. The reverse camera and mirrors should be sufficient to stay "safe". I own 2 other vehicles without cameras or sensors and havent ran anyone over to date, or been t boned pulling out of my driveway, but at the same time I can appreciate the safety technology that my SD has.
I don't know, but I too will take any help from the rear or front sensors (that I installed), while parking, there were situations more than once or twice while I was backing out, I looked and everything was perfectly OK, 1/2 the way out beep, beep, and there it was , a vehicle just about ready to "T' bone my truck "if I would have kept going"...
Ya surprised the human race managed before...
Iam not saying those features are not good...but people...some people...don't even use there mirros anymore and just look at the screen while backing up ....that's when its bad...
Hopefully that's not ypu.
Quick update. I went to my local ford dealer and they had no solution except to remove the weight distribution hitch. Not very practical when camping. I called a bigger ford dealer and they said they understood the problem and could fix it. Got there and tech said nothing they could do. I talked to them about disconnecting the inside 2 sensors and said it would throw a code. No practical solution that I know of. Will update as I learn more.
