My ac clutch doesn't want to engage. I have checked fuses, relays and freon and all are ok so I think it is still electrical. Inside fan and controls all work fine.
There is an electrical connector coming off of the compressor on the line to the condenser. It has 3 pins in it. How do I troubleshoot this device? (think it is a low pressure cutout switch) I'm used to a two pin switch that is closed or open. The three wires have thrown me for a loop. Guess its for the ECM. Also, if I unscrew the switch from the freon line am I going to dump all my freon? Some of these connections have schrader valves to hold the freon in but I've seen some that don't also.
I put the truck on Forscan and was reading 412 PSI on the high side with engine off and 60 on low side. So.... I thought it was the high side pressure sender that was bad but gauges confirmed the high side pressure. There must be a blockage in the freon system for the pressures to be that far apart. Any ideas???
Said air was getting into system from a stuck valve in the compressor. Replaced compressor and seems to be ok now. I still don't understand how this could happen. Compressor should be just a pump in a closed system. Guess I'm too old school.
