I have searched, but was unable to find information about these units.
I recently purchased a 2000 Excursion Limited with an Advent roof-mounted DVD player. Was Advent the brand of DVD player that was installed at the factory. Were Advent DVD players dealer installed? The factory stereo was replaced with a Pioneer touchscreen in 2013 by the previous owner. The advent DVD player was connected to the Pioneer stereo. The cables for the DVD player run up the driver side A-pillar and are routed above the headliner. I have replaced the Pioneer stereo with a newer touch screen stereo and want to permanently remove the DVD player. It is cracked at the hinge and will not stay in the up position. As an FYI, my excursion also has a CD changer mounted in the console. It appears to be factory installed.
Does anyone have any experience removing one of these Advent units? Were they installed in place of an overhead light assembly? Will an overhead light assembly cover the opening in the headliner?
Ford did not offer a factory dvd player until 2002, until then they offered a factory VCR. The advant DVD is an aftermarket item that was probably installed by the PO so it is unknown what damage might have been done to the headliner, you will have to take it down and take a look The Cd player that you are referring to is a six disc unit that was installed by ford and worked in conjunction with the factory in dash radio, it probably is not compatible with your new head unit. Hope I was able to give you a little bit of information Good luck on your adventure

After removing the aftermarket DVD player I was left with this. The cables were run up the driver side A-pillar, above the headliner and through the AC ducting.
I picked a section of headliner from a 2001 Excursion in a salvage yard and made a "patch panel". I epoxied 8-32 x 1" stainless steel screws into the panel and used fender washers and wing nuts to fasten to the head liner. I used 3M general purpose spray adhesive to reglue the headliner cloth to the panel.
I plan to keep this Excursion for a very long time. If/when I have to re-upholster the headliner, I will repair it properly at that time.
