Transmission pan gasket question
#16
It’s your money but why are you doing that? All the needed additives (friction modifiers, detergents, etc) are already in the transmission fluid. Change the fluid at the recommended intervals and you’ll be good for 100’s of thousands of miles.

Got the pan and pan gasket back on my 1986 F150. I tightened the bolts down till the bolt flanges just made contact with the pan, then gave 1/2 turn more. Hoping that will be sufficient. I could go another 1/2 turn if need be.
Total fluid capacity for the code T AOD, according to my Haynes manual is 12 quarts. Since I am doing just the filter and pan gasket, would 6 quarts be what I need to refill the pan?

Put 3 quarts in and then start the engine. Let it sit there and idle in park, and pull the dipstick. Add a little bit at a time till you get to the cold mark on the dipstick. Take it for a drive and come back, let it idle on a level spot on the driveway and pull the dipstick, wipe it off, and then re-insert it. It should be up around the H mark or at least inbetween the H and the C.

Start with 2 quarts then top it off after checking it.
