I have a 2000 Excursion Limited PSD that has the smaller fuel intake and won't accept the high throughput nozzles that the big boys use. I know the 250s have a larger fuel intake that will take these larger nozzles. It's sometimes a pain to find/wait for the auto-diesel pump at the truck stops and it would be nice to use these high-speed nozzles to fill that 44 gallon tank in a snap. My question is whether or not the X's fuel intake can be modified to accept the larger nozzles. It looks like there is a plastic insert that may be removed. Has anyone tried removing this?
My '03 PSD has the larger intake (Yippee!!). Seems to me, you can go to your friendly Ford parts counter, buy an intake for an '03 Excursion, and then just swap them out.
Thanks for the responses. I searched all over prior to posting but was unable to find anything on the process of switching the intake. I will call the local Ford dealer and find out if it can be done.
My 2000 F-250 also had a smaller intake. I took my intake off and Dremeled it out so that the larger nozzles will fit. Go to the dieselstop and do a search of spepin. He posted pictures of how he did his. It was really easy, just three screws and a couple of hose clamps. Ream it out and be sure to wash it out good.
Hi ,the job is real easy to do . First wait until your tank is down to a quarter tank . Take the three srcews out of the fill (where the nozzle goes) go underneath and use a 5/16th nut driver and un loosen the two hose clamps .You might have to take a srew driver and pry the rubber hoses loose.Once the clamps are loose pull the nozzle down and twist it down and it should come right out.No that was the hard part. You will need a die grinder to grind the fill stop out of the neck ,this should take a few minutes.Rinse the fill out with a little gas and then blow some compressed air through it. Now reinstall it,and your ready for the big nozzles..
