Not sure where the 1966 came into this thread, the original poster said " 61 to 64" and there is a difference. As to the original question, I can't tell you why it hasn't been done.
Track width, large differences in body mounting points, personally I would never consider a modern FRAME. I work in a recycling yard, I see modern, running otherwise beautiful vehicles of all types scraped for frame rot, not so much on vintage iron.
But someone has to be the first, go for it...
