I am selling a receiver through an online auction provider and am having a lot of people act as if I am asking for too much shipping. Is 25.00 too much to ship a hitch? I have looked at UPS and USPS and both are in the 30 Dollar range. Why am I getting so much hate mail???
Just need opinions here. I am not one of those people that overcharge cause I really dislike that. I am gettin to be really offended here. Should I be?
Thanks
Aaron
If UPS says 30 dollars, then 25 bucks sounds reasonable to me.
I always go by the UPS rate sheet, if someone is tacking on an extra 15 bucks for handling I will not buy the product.
Example: Some Ford dealers have tried to scam me recently. They tried to charge me 25 dollars to ship a 1 pound package to my Ford dealer. What is worse is that, alot of dealers will not ship to a residence , so I would still have to pick up the part at my dealer. I could ship a package that size from Pennsy to California for 7 or 8 bucks UPS Ground. The part is an obsolete one that some dealers carry and others have run out of.
Take the hate mail and file it in the circular file where it belongs.
If someone is complaining you could ask a UPS clerk to copy the rate sheet that pertains to the zip codes the package is being shipped to and from.
Well I havent even gotten a bid on it yet. Just a lot of e-mail asking why the shipping is so high. If I doesnt sell then at least I can put it in the shed till someone I know buys it.
Thanks

What I do if I am selling a heavy item is post the weight this way the peoplecan check the rates themselves. ALWAYS add 1-2lbs for the packing if it is a large heavy item.
Well I should have done that but I dont know the exact weight. Im not allowed to have truck/car parts in the house since the tranny in the bathtub incedent. Same as the fact that the wife wont let me use the scale in the garage.

Say something like "actual shipping cost" plus $5 for packing. Use a spring scale to get an approximate weight, and let the buyer worry about how much it'll cost. You can probably set up a link to UPS for bidders to get an estimate based on their zip code.
I usually don't check for shipping until I am going to buy it and then I ask who the seller is using and I check the companies website. Those people are complaining just to complain.
We have had the same problem only we had one person back out of a winning bid because they thought the shipping for a large heavy box was too much. Now we weigh the box complete, post it's weight plus handling. The complainers still complain, but do not bid, which is fine by us.
