automatic trans shift issue

I have a 97 F250 with 7.3 Diesel and automatic transmission. Is it normal that when it is cold outside and the engine is cold that it takes a long time to get it to shift into O.D.? When I say cold I mean anything around 32 degrees...sometimes warmer. Normally about 50 with slow acceleration it shift into OD about 50mph. When cold cold it holds that last gear up to near 60mph and still doesn't always want to shift...til it warms up some then all is normal again. Any ideas?

Yes, that's normal. The torque converter lockup is disabled until the trans warms up. That's what you're seeing, and it is working as designed.
