Good day guys. Can't seem to find this anywhere so sorry if it's been discussed already.. but iam putting a 302 H.O. fr a 1991 fox body in my '77 highboy.. iam just trying to figure out which wires to splice to make the rest of the truck function when I pull the old 'brain box' out as it's obviously not going to hook up to anything.. I've got a stand-alone painless wiring kit for the 302 to make it run in the truck as needed .. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!
You talking about the Dura Spark on the left inner fender apron? Nothing besides the ignition is on it. All it does is take a signal from a pickup in the distributor and interrupt ground from the coil to cause a high energy spark from the coil to hit the distributor cap so the rotor has it to pass off to a plug wire. It just really is a part of a high tech set of points. It also controls dwell angle to build up the next spark in the coil. You have a diagram for that stand alone setup? It controls nothing else.
I hope you got a lot of the 91Fox Body Mustang engine compartment main wiring harness, things like O2 sensors that thread into the headers or exhaust manifolds are probably going to have to be used. Or get a tuner to delete the need, but I bet you are going to need them or at least that signal going to the PCM.
Also probably have to get and use a Walbro elec frame mounted fuel pump. Any chance you got the mustang fuel tank. That should have an elec powered in tank pump and all the fuel line connection's and you run that pump. Is it serpentine belt motor? Did you get the power distribution block (fuse block) out of the eng compartment and maybe the one inside the car. If you can keep the car for a few days during the swap over it might come in handy.
What Painless wiring harness did you get? I am watching this thread close because I have a 76 Bronco with a Ford 5.0 EFI and the computer and wiring and vacuum lines are nightmare. In fact they got the motor in and is does run, but what a mess under the hood.

For some reason I guess I was in the thinking it would power other things running into the cab .. haven't gotten there yet but was just trying to figure things out b4 I do .. wiring for the painless kit is basically just the basics .. power on and starter signal . Water temp . fuel pump . has the o2 sensors for mapping and ecm plug in that I got off the donor Caras far as off motor goes... guess I just got ahead of myself . Ha .. more simple than I had in my head I guess !! Thanks man!!!
77&79250 I do still have the car .. motor looks the same as the one .. couldn't seem to get the fuel tank to fit anywhere so iam going with a frame mount yup .. went with this harness .. I have the exhaust and everything off the car that I'll mod to fit the truck .. lots of mod iam sure but that's all in the fun hahaha
For the time being, run the car tank with it setting in the bed of the truck. Thanks for the harness info BUT WOW that harness is crazy $$$. I think the EFI guy can cut down a OEM harness and leave what is just needed to run the motor for WAY less than that harness. None the the less I am watching this thread for sure. Need to keep the ol Bronco running. Any chance I could get that engine compartment harness off the car if you do not need it? Its hard to find one in a JY not all hacked up already.

I'll see what I can do for you as far as the harness but won't let it go until iam all wrapped up... car is buried in a cpl feet of snow for the next 2-3 months anyways lol iam up in Northern BC. Canada. The harness seemed worth it to me as my time is limited and I wanted it clean and simplified! Cool old bronco BTW!!!
No worries, when you are all said and done and if you do not need the harness I would appreciate if we can work out a deal. Yes the Bronco is a trail rig, but that 302 makes it a fun one for sure.
