Depends on what tires you wanna run. Small in the front big in the rear, same size radials on all 4 corners, stock bias ply tires?
Part of the answer will also involve what steering and suspension you're running. Without power steering you might not want to go too large on your front tires.
I have Toyota power steering and am running, with no bed or fender mods:
Front wheel make,size,Vintiques 12-5605334 15 X 6 3.63 BS
My wheels are from Summit Racing, US wheel 52 series chrome smoothie, 15x6x5.5 bolt circle w/3.75 backspace on my 49 F1 (front) & 15x8x5.5 w/4,25 backspace (rear)
What year, model is your truck? Post a picture?
Mine is 52 with stock suspension. Looking for wheels is exhausting. Don’t want to end up with something that won’t fit or look right.. original rims were 4 1/2” with .62 offset.
I know on the front wheels the center of the tire should be inline with the lower portion of the king pin..
I'm with Tlta29, I've been researching wheels for the last 6 months. I've narrowed it down to 4 different sets, but now I'm bouncing back and forth between 15" or 16" which also adds some complexity, and then throw tire size into that and it becomes a head-spinning process. When I'm going to spend ~$2K on wheels & tires I don't want to order the wrong thing and be stuck with them so this has held me up a bit.
The good news is I have done enough business with the local Discount Tire over the years that they told me once I'm ready to pull the trigger they have a stash of returned rims (new but scratched, dented, ordered wrong, etc) that they can mount used tires on in the various sizes I'm thinking about where I can take them home, install them to see how they look until I find a combo I like and then they will order the correct size rim/tire so we know the fit will be right the first time. That's customer service!
Just something to think about. I was talking to my tire guy the other day and he told me he's having trouble gets 15" tires in some sizes. I guess all the new cars are 16" or larger.
Yes BJ I blew a tire on my coupe 200 miles from home near a town with at least 3 tire shops and most car dealerships . There were no 15" tires my size ( not shocking being a 255 60 15 ) but absolutely no 15"s the same height . I ended up buying a pair of 235 70 15 's as they were the only thing in town , a substantially larger tire . After watching the shop try for hours I asked if he had any 15"s at all and he told me of the 235's saying he was sure they were far too large . My answer was the car had air shocks I will make them fit . The car got new wheels 2 springs ago with the repaint but I serious wish I would have gone to 16's .
I was thinking at the time when I bought my wheels and tires this past summer and was going to go with 16" rims because there is lot more tires to pick from. I decided to stick with 15" and Nexan tires. Out the door price Mounting, balance and tax was $1050.00
My 53 is running 8" rims from Early Wheel in CA. Fronts are zero offset w/ 255 / 60-15 tires ,
rears are 3/4" negative offset w/ 275/ 60-15 tires, stock suspension.
My 49 is running Cooper GT Radial 225/70R15 on 15x7 AR Slot Mags up front and Cooper GT Radial 275/60R15 on 15x8.5 Appliance Slot Mags on rear. Love the look and the stance.
