code 172
i also have a more alarming problem that i don't think is related and maybe i should start a separate thread. i went on a short drive and when i got back home the truck was smoking from the engine compartment. popped the hood and saw flames to the rear of the engine on the passenger side. threw snow on it to put it out. it was burning toward the rear of the first spark plug wire. the smoke kind of smelled like coolant (kind of a rubbery smell too) but it's got to have something flammable in it...
Vacuum leaks and low fuel pressure can cause this code.
Take a good look at your engine vacuum hoses, especially the PCV valve hose, since it likes to crack and leak.
Also check your fuel pressure. The big auto parts stores loan out fuel pressure gauges for free with a deposit. Its easy to do. Just make sure you check your pressure while our power-braking or accelerating, not at idle.
As for your fire issue, I dont remember which side the fuel lines enter the engine compartment, but I think its the drivers side. Fuel fires are the most likely cause, but it would be on the wrong side. Transmission lines run on the passenger side, but its difficult to ignite.
