Drone Sound when Decelerating from 55-35mph / Truck in shop for 35 Days +
I am hearing a Drone/Whine sound only when decelerating from 55 to 35mph. Only makes the sound in this range, drone noise peaks at 45mph. Touch the throttle anywhere in this speed range and sound stops. Put the truck in Neutral in this speed range, sounds stop. Does not make it below 30mph or above 55mph. Best and closest description I can give is the sound of a truck engaged in 4wd and the excess sound/friction that is produced from transfer case/front diff. Truck has 700mi on it.
Noticed this sound from the 1st day I picked up my truck last week. Not sure if its normal, seems too noticeable and slightly annoying.
Have you checked the fluid levels in the transfer case and differential? There have been a few cases posted that are similar to yours. Some dealers blow it off as normal. Some dealers check it out. There have been some axles replaced due to this.
Could the front hubs be locked in? I’m remembering from some threads in the past that trucks are shipped with the hubs locked in and the dealers miss it during PDI.
Got a call today: Bad Pinion Bearing in Rear Diff. I got the truck with 100 miles on it. It made the noise since day 1. In the shop with 800 Miles, not too happy after waiting almost 11 months for it.
Truck has been in their shop for 2 weeks now. Still waiting on parts.
Wait Continues ...
dont feel bad, my 2022 f450 lariat, I got with 5.6 miles on the clock. 2nd I left to drive it 230 miles home it darted all over the road. I got home the passenger front tire had tread pealing off the carcus. Took it to my nearest ford dealer (parkway ford), after appointment was set, sat there for a day, couldnt work on it. Said they were to busy, take it elsewhere. Went else where, 3 weeks later got it fixed. Ate tires again and I. December had to get new tires and alignment. Took 2 weeks. Now I got a fuel leak at the fuel tank, took to another dealer as everyone is a couple weeks out. They claim the wont work on it as its to indepth, and take it back to where I bought it 230 miles away. Now I got an appointment next Thursday. I'll take it next Thursday for it to sit for weeks. A week was wasted sitting at the useless ford dealer by me.
On the flip side I got a 22 f350 srw lariat, it's been great. But the f450 is a pain cause the dealer support it horrible! Ford customer service could care less! But all of the manufacturers are the same, just have to ignore all the little things, and go about it. Could be much much worse.

Waiting Parts, then wrong parts came in, then damaged parts, now waiting on more parts.......
They got all the parts in, assembled it back together. Then Diff couldn't turn 1 revolution before binding up. Now waiting on new parts and Ford Guidance to replace all parts.
Truck is still in the shop since 1/23/23. 35 Days in total...
Ford/Dealer finally thought it was time to order a complete new rear axle. Told me another 7-10 days to get the axle + Install time.
I feel skeptical with the dealers competence to resolve this issue after almost 5 weeks. How quick is the Ford Buyback process or should I pressure the dealer just to refund me my money if things just don't seem to resolve?
Sucks that I cannot find the same truck at another dealer to buy, waiting 1 year and having to go through this is a nightmare. Anybody else would just walk away from this, maybe im just too patient.
