I’m trying to pull my 360 out of my f250. It feels like it’s still hooked up to the trans and I can’t get it to pop forward. How many bell housing bolts are there? I pulled 4 and could find anymore of them
Im pretty sure there is 6 bolts. Its been a couple years since I rebuilt my 360 for my 70 f250 and installed it. There is two up at the top about 6 inches apart. Also, one above and below the starter. Did you pull the inspection plate for the flywheel and unbolt flywheel from the torque converter? The flywheel will go with the engine. Remove the starter as well.

I pulled the starter out and the 4 bolts on the top. It’s a manual so I know I’m not forgetting torque converter bolts (I’ve done that a few times on different trucks 😂.
Knowing it has a manual tranny is helpful. I was talking about a c6 but said flywheel instead of flex plate. The manual bellhousing still has 6 bolts though. There is 3 bolts per side.

Gotcha thanks. I meant to put that in the original post but oh well
Just pulled a 360 also, it has been parked a long time, clutch was rusted to the splines and the dowel pins were stuck too. Be careful, my bell housing broke around the dowel pin trying to wiggle it loose
This was from when I was putting my 390 in my 72 f250 4x4. You can see the bolts above and below the starter and the two on top. There is also two on the other side.

I got all of those out but it’s still hung up. I can’t see anything. The truck has been sitting for 20+ years so it might just not want to separate easily

I think that’s what my problem is. Truck has been sitting for 20+ years
I pulled motor and tranny together. Although not stuck bad, the dowel pins were my main hangup. I had to wiggle it around quite a bit, but when they let go it fell apart. Maybe jack the front of the tranny up to give more wiggle room?
I'm curious, what hold the tranny up when the motor is out? Is there a mount under the bell housing or tranny? I have to do the same thing to my 72 f350 dump. It has the 360 also with the optional rear main seal leak.

Put a floor jack under the tranny. It has a mount, but that is towards the rear of the transmission.
Like stated above, if you only pull the engine, you will have to jack up the tranny. From there, you can leave a jack under it or shore it up with wood or whatever. Rear main leaks suck. I rebuilt a 360 for my 70 f250 and I screwed up the rear main. I am going to pull it out again when I have time for the truck.
