My door hinges on my 76 Highboy are worn plum out. Instead of trying to replace pins I'm just going to replace the hinges. Does anyone have any experience with hinges from LMC? And any advice or tips on replacing these will be much appreciated. I do plan on soaking all the bolts with PB Blaster for several days.
Thanks for any advice.
Personally, I'd rather find a nice used set than trust a Made-in-China product from LMC. When it comes to swapping them out, I'd change one hinge at a time which will make body panel alignment easier.
I would personally would NOT use LMC, I would spend the $ and get the best quality ones out there. I would shop Dennis Carpenter 1st. How are your nuts plates on the cab side? You do not want to break a bolt off in their. I would use a fine tip sharpie and trace the hinges position on the cab and the door. Then us a cherry picker to make taking the door off easier. Swap hinges and use the sharpie marks to hopefully get them lined right back up or really close, to help keep major adjustments to a minimum.
Keep the hinges you have, new bushings and pins are so much easier than fighting a different stamping, and less money. If for some reason yours are bent up from an accident or something buy a used one.
Not the truck, but for a Thunderbird, I made a wooden cradle to fit a floor jack and the door contour, opened the door, and used the floor jack and cradle to support the door as I did mine one at a time. I re-pinned them in place by cutting the stock pin with a Dremel tool about mid-way up.
If you can, try and find some original hinges from the passenger side. The hinges are the same on both sides, just flipped. The passenger door is opened a fraction of the amount of a drivers door.
I’m currently replacing doors and hinges on my truck. Be careful trying to line everything up again. I pinched my door against the cab and it is easy to mess up paint. I also have my fenders off, it makes it much easier to access everything.
I would like to just replace bushings and pins but the driver side spring is gone and I’m missing a couple bushings also. So I’m sure the holes are so worn that new bushings might not help much. Check with DC and hinges are out of stock with them. Bronco graveyard has some but it appears they are the same manufacturer as the ones LMC has.
Door hinges: you could look at the hinges on the driver side compare them to the passenger side. you will see that there is only two hinges and they are upside down on one side of the truck, ford only made 2 hinges for the 4 locations, so take the hinge you need from the opposite side off a truck in the wrecking yard as the passenger sides get used way less. So lower driver side hinge matches upper passenger side - they are the same part and upper driver side hinge matches lower passenger side - they are the same part According to sources this above info is incorrect, but it always worth a try to ck it out. They might be different part #’s but they might be interchangeable ? 1973/79 F100/750 & 1978/79 Bronco: D3TZ-1022800-A .. Right & Left Upper Hinge / Obsolete D3TZ-1022810-A .. Right & Left Lower Hinge / Obsolete The lower hinges contain the check strap, the upper hinges do not.

Hey Rich, the above information is "slightly" incorrect. There are only two hinges but they are the same left and right. The hinges don't get swapped top to bottom when going from right to left. It's the same hinge right and left top and right and left bottom.

Thanks Mike, it is actually a FTE copy and past quote from along time ago. I still have not got that parts CD I got from you figured out. It's like using a Mayan calendar.
I do not know that this is in question ... but on my '77 the doors have been replaced by me recently but I never took the hinges loose from the cab.
Top hinges have NO springs.
Lower hinges have the S springs.
I just looked today. I meant to look real close and see if all 4 are the same hinge with the exception being that two have springs. I got busy and forgot to look for that little detail. I don't know why they couldn't be as just the addition of that S spring would change a part number. It would be very easy for a person dealing with this issue to check out.
Some of the cars in that era used the same door hinges. When I replaced a broken hinge, I ended up buying an NOS hinge from ebay for a torino or mustang, can't remember for sure.
