I have memories of accessing my IDM at some point in the past, although I don't recall why. It was years ago and I've slept since then.
I do know I never opened it, never had any need to. In any case, it has remained in its location untouched by me for several years now.
I pulled it out today and realized that my IDM has certainly been tampered with at some point in its life. More gifts from the previous owner. yay...
Did someone paint it black and take care not to paint the vent, or are some of them this way originally? I ask because, despite everything else, this part of it seems well done.
I am a bit disappointed they didn't add the extra performance of red paint and didn't bother to take any care with the non-ford sealant.
The cover plate is anodized black, and the warning label is in good shape. I'm guessing that much is factory.
It does have a smear of this rtv in a surprisingly even and symmetrical shape on the cover plate. I tend to think there may have been a tag or label from a reman of some sort. Ebay?
Does anyone know of an IDM that had branding or something glued on like this?

I think your IDM is a virgin. I got an IDM from RAE and the white vent was plugged, my guess is most remans have the same plug. But maybe show the other side. Here's pics of my OEM and the RAE reman.
Neither here nor there, but looking at these pics just now I'm thinking the same RTV sealing the IDM also sealed the oil pan. Same grey color and giant bead. But seems odd if they were made in same shop.

Good start is pulling the codes so we have more clues. Forscan app on your android will get ya there. There is a sticky post at the top of this page for Technical stuff, look in there for lotsa info on Forscan.
