Was looking for a ‘16-17 5.0 basically for reliability but found what seems to be a good deal on a 2.7 Eco. I doubt I’ll tow but once in a great while so I don’t really need the 5.0.
Have you had any issues with your ‘18-20 2.7? How many miles do you have? Any high mileage 2.7’s out there?
Thanks in advance
We have a 2020 2.7 with 34K miles and we really like it. The only thing it pulls is our small boat and I don't think it would be a great puller of much weight but for what we use it for it's great with a lot of get up and go. We have our DRW for any heavy hauling or towing. The only thing that took some getting used to was the sound of a V6 over a V8 but when you mash down on the go petal and turbos kick in it makes up for that. It easily gets 19 and 20 around town and 24 on the hwy with one trip up to 26. Ours is a XLT CC, 5.5 box, 302A package and the Sport trim package.

Nice! Almost exactly what I’m looking at except not a Sport. I need a front bench but want the heated seats. lol
Friend that I helped buy a 2018, has 100K on his, pulls a 3k trailer almost always (he's a horse shoer), and wants to get a second vehicle, and keep the 2.7 - he does do regular oil changes, but the truck gets worked... I would buy a 2.7 eco in a New York Second...
But I just bought an extended warranty on our 2020 3.5 - I did it mostly for all the electronics/expensive LED lights - I doubt the powertrain will ever be a problem...
My son-in-law has 100k miles on his 2016 2.7 EB. Timing chain had to be replaced when almost new, at 4k miles. Either a factory defect, or my suspicion is that the dealer put 5w20 in at the first oil change as it happened within a few days after. Warranty covered it.
Anyway, zero issues since the. Except a slight drip from the oil pan that showed up at about 92k miles. It was a commonly reported issue here a few years ago. Ford revised the pan and sealant, and it’s rare to see a post a out it today.
People must be happy with them. About 30% of F150 sales are 2.7s. It’s not often that you see a post here with issues.
My F150 has the 2.7. It's a good truck. With 34k miles on it I've barely broken it in. I don't plan to do much towing (maybe a UHaul trailer around town). However it did great with 3 adults and 2 kids between OKC and KC last year with a bed full of luggage. I got the bench seat as well, IMHO it's stupid that manufacturers want every vehicle they make to have that "fighter jet" feeling.
I have several friends with the 2.7, and it has been flawless for all of them. I've also had our 3.5 now for almost 8 years and it has also been problem free. Regular oil changes with the recommended semi-synthetic (~~ 6,000 miles between changes).
I have never owned a 2.7 but I have driven dozens of them and it is an amazing engine. If you have ever driven a v6 German turbo motor from an Audi or a BMW this 2.7 is as good as those and built smarter.
It is super smooth like a sewing machine but hauls *** and is super efficient. It is the sleeper engine in the f150 lineup in my opinion.
Howdy,
I own a 2019 Ford F-150 Supercrew 2.7 Ecoboost with 39,xxx miles. I purchased this truck new. I love it. I do not tow a trailer much. I have towed a 4,000lb trailer with no problems. Very impressed with this trucks power and handling. I've driven this truck on multiple long vacations. I would definitely buy a Ford F-150 2.7 Ecoboost.
My 2.7 is a 2016. 157”wb 2wd Lariat. 3.31 rear. It turned 99,000 miles this morning. Lifetime mileage is 21.2, which I think is amazing. No powertrain issues ever. The engine requires no too off oil between approx 7500 mile oil changes. Over-all issues? One panel of the rear window defroster quit working. The upper channel of the sliding rear window came loose and I fixed that with some 3M double sided tape. Nothing else. My 2.7 seems bullet proof and easily outperforms the 5.0 in my 2012 157”wb Lariat 2wd.
Wife has a 2019 that just rolled 50k miles, it's the Sport, and I'll say this. That 2.7 is an incredibly stout little motor in the normal driving mode, but the Sport driving mode wakes it up a bit with the higher shift points and holding gears just a bit longer for better acceleration.
We've pulled our flatbed a few times with all our quads on it, and it does an admirable job. It knows the weight is back there but it doesn't really seem to struggle with it, especially with that 10 speed backing it up.
It also gets GREAT mileage. We took it to Orlando last Christmas (roughly 2200 miles one way) and had zero issues while putting down mid to high 20's for mileage the whole way.
It's a great combination for someone who doesn't tow a lot but still needs or wants a truck that can actually function as a truck.
Just traded my 2015 2.7. It had a 147k on it. Other than oil changes and normal maintenance every 5000 miles I had not one problem. Great mileage and plenty of power for towing and passing on the highway. I hope I have the same luck with my 2018 5.0 that I traded up to.
I have a 2018 with the 2.7 which just turned over to 30k last week. The 325 horses provide plenty of power for passing and I have had zero problems with it. I say go for it....
