I am looking into a new '23 Lariat, and still prefer the old style regular cruise control. Is there a way to have that turned "on", and not have the new adaptive type that slows you down when approaching a slower car ahead?
I don't believe so but I don't have my '21 XLT handy to double check.
Have you tried adaptive cruise control? It's pretty darn convenient and it makes driving a bit more relaxing and easier. It'll even handle stop and go traffic, though sometimes you have to press a button to get moving again.
i'm sure they could. i just picked up a 22 f150 3.3 work truck and it doesn't have cruise. from what i've read its just a matter of the buttons and a programming done and operates with a plain clockspring. so i would assume you could replace it with a standard clock spring and not the adaptive one and deprogram it if you even need to

I have a ‘21 XLT with adaptive cruise control. You can turn the adaptive cruise off on it.

Try holding the cruise control button for a few seconds when you turn it on that may disable the adaptive cruise. My wife has a rav4 and that's how it works....I know it's toyota but maybe worth a shot.

I have a '21 XL that I added the cruise control button module to, there are like 3 things you have to change in forscan. There's a thread on the f150 forum that tells you the modules you need to change. Has nothing to do with a clock spring, there's not even a separate cruise control module or anything. They literally just don't give you the buttons and the as built codes tell it you don't have cruise.
Yes, Adaptive Cruise can be easily turned off without using Forscan. You might be surprised though. Give it a chance and you might be like me and learn to enjoy it.
I shut the adaptive cruise control off on my '21. Can you imagine going down a narrow Missouri highway and coming up on a sign that say bridge weight is 80 tons? What a ride.

Speed sign recognition is different setting from adaptive cruise. I turned speed sign recognition off after it recognized "County Road 78" as the speed limit but I still regularly use adaptive cruise. Adaptive cruise monitors traffic in front of you and matches the speed of the vehicle in front of you, stopping when they stop, accelerating when they accelerate. It lets you set the following distance as well.
Then there is the lane control feature which is its own setting and either keeps you centered in the lane or alerts you if you drift too far to either side of the lane.
I'm fine with adaptive cruise control turned off. I got tired of the truck hitting brakes when someone would change lanes in front of me. Good for Ford in that brake jobs would need to be done more frequently.
