I bought a set of the Speedway center dump heaters for my ‘49 F1. The drivers side hits the steering box. Has anyone found a set of headers that doesn’t have to be modified for this?
Red's Headers sells headers that are made specifically for F-1's, they clear stock steering boxes. I have them and also their "extensions" that continue from the headers to about the back of the cab. They used to be very reasonable, not so much anymore, but they fit, which many do not.
I tried two other manufacturers before trying Red's (20 years ago). Red's (on page 5 of their catalog) fit with no issue, except I elected to trim a little off on the end of the driver's side. I think I did this to help give the exhaust pipe a little more clearance on the clutch rod.
i just saw the "collector pipe style" of headers on page one in their catalogue. I wonder how well they fit? They look cool !
As an added note...I think the center dump that I tried did fit...but it interfered with the dipstick....i was not willing to modify that.
