I've been trying several combinations of headers on my 56 with the 289. I prefer the shorties but may have to use long headers. I've got a ton of room, yet every set of headers I try either hit the engine mounts or the steering box which is near the rear of the firewall. I need some headers where the pipes or collector go down near cylinder 7 and 8. anything after cylinder 8 will probably hit my steering bo 5.0 headers hit the steering box.). A friend of mine also has a set of cast iron hi po 289 manifolds. Is it worth putting these on in lieu of headers? Any suggestions on a header that might work with this setup?
Here'e a couple that might be a possibility, if I'm picturing your setup correctly. You can get an idea of dimensions at http://www.sandersonheaders.com/pagesbypartnum/ff2.htm They won't be particularly cheap. BTW, for factory manifolds, the 289 HiPo set isn't bad.
Homespun, thanks for the great post. The first picture might work for me. The second picture of headers, I already tried. They are very similar to the Motorsport block huggers, (I told you I tried a lot) The front corner of the collector hits the engine mount. I'll call Sanderson and check on the application for the first one. Thanks again.
Ed.
BTW, my buddy wants $50 for the two cast iron manifolds from the hi po.
I believe I managed to load them backwards. The left pair is FF4, the right is FF2. Sanderson is good about accomodating returns, etc. & are willing to mix & match also out of different sets.
