1992 F-150 4x4 swap
I am in the prosses of completing a 4x4 swap( I installed a complete 4x4 suspension and drive train into a 4x2 truck) The truck was a 5 speed, 4.9 4x2. It is now a 4x4 5 speed 4.9.
Everything went fine untill I went to hook up the speedometer. On the 92's there is no speed cable or speed sensor on the 2 wheel drive transmition. The transfer case is out of a 1980 Bronco and has a hole for the cable/sensor. I replaced my stock tonewheel rearend with a 9" out of a Bronco.I made a 4 wheel drive transmition from a broken cased 4x4 trany and my 2 wheel drive trany so that part is as ford would have done it. There seems to be a plug in the wiring harness near the trany that wasnt used before, is this for a speed sensor? Can anyone help me get a speedo to work. Thanks for any help.
p.s. I already know that my rear anti lock brakes wont work on the 9"

It is strange that there isn't a speed sensor mounted in the tailshaft of the 2WD trans.Could it be mounted on the passenger side which is not the usual place for mechanical type? I don't think the speedo came of of the ring gear sensor out back,
but I'm not sure,I dont have any wire diaghrams.
Double check the 2WD trans. for the sensor. It will resemble the shape and hold down style of the older mechanical type, but will have an electrical connector instead of a cable. If you find it and the diameter matches the hole in the transfer case, give it a trial fit.

I pulled and dismanteled the 2 whell drive trans to build the 4 wheel drive tranny. When i pulled the tranny there was olny the backup light wires. On the drivers side there is a hole cast for a speedo but it is not bored through and there is no drive gear for a speedo inside the tranny. As i said i took the tail shaft out to replaced it with the shorter 4 wheel drive shaft and found no sensor, gear or other means of knowing the speed. Thanks for the help anyhow
