Will navigation require a subscription after 3 years?
I have SYNC 3 in a 2020 truck with unlimited free navigation. I was just reading this clip from an ad for new trucks and it sounds like after a 3 year period, you need to have a paid subscription for "navigation services" to continue to work. Can someone explain if this is true and exactly what functionality is lost if user elects not to pay after the first 3 years?
Clipped from a dealer ad: CONNECTED BUILT-IN NAVIGATIONNavigation service requires SYNC4 and FordPass Connect (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service and the FordPass app (see FordPass Terms for details), Customer receives a complimentary 3-year trial of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to member's FordPass account, Trial period begins w/new vehicle warranty start date, At the end of the complimentary period, access to connected navigation services will be discontinued, Connected service and features depend on compatible Bell network availability, Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features, FordPass App, compatible w/select smartphone platforms, is available via a download, Message and data rates may apply
does not answer my question. Will one need to pay a subscription fee to use navigation after 3rd year of ownership? Yes/NO?
He did answer your question but you didn't understand it. Since you have Sync3 and not Sync4, which Ford now calls "Connected Navigation", you are not subject to the new navigation subscription requirement. The only thing you have to worry about is keeping your maps up to date with periodic updates that are offered. You don't need to update and your system will just keep on functioning. For those with Sync4 on lower level trim models, if the subscription is not maintained, they lose all navigation capability. Sync 4 on higher trim levels will continue to function like the Sync3 system but will lose extra features like traffic updates and detour rerouting as well as lose map updates.
my question is in relation to SYNC 4 after buying a new 2023 truck. So basic navigation will still work for free after 3 years on a 2023 LARIAT but not an XLT then?

You should have made that clear in your first post. You asked in mention to your current truck and it WAS answered accurately.

Ok...got it now. If I remember correctly, it may require a 502A Lariat or higher trim to get the high level Sync4 which will continue to function without a subscription, but it's been a while since I studied the price guide that detailed it, maybe it was the 302A and higher....
Edit: Checked order guide and Copilot 360 Assist includes the expanded navigation option which includes an initial 3 year subscription and will continue to function but will not get updated after the subscription expires. Copilot 360 Assist is an available option on XLT 301A and above Trim Levels.
