IOLM.....proof that it does work.

Changed the oil (5w40) on my 6.7 about 2k ago and a little over a month ago.

Plowed snow for almost a week straight here, truck ran from 8 to 18 hours each event without being shut off. It had lots of idle time, I used high idle most times.....if I didn't it seem to idle up to 1,000 rpm by itself.

I had around 3,000 pounds worth of salt with me most times and hauled the skidsteer probably 10 times to different sites.

Anyway, I checked the oil % today and it reads 57%. I usually change oil when it get to 20%.

I have seen plenty of naysayers post it's only 10k or 1 year....nope.

That's a lot of run time and plus with the idle time, time's ticking away and dropping the OLM percentage... Can't say I'm surprised At your results as the Ford engineers are pretty good at this by now...

And I don't miss my plowing days by a long shot... Been there, done that.. Stay safe out there.

It seems that many don’t question whether or not it works so much at how well it works. I change mine every 5k. I pretty much run B20 and have lots of short, stop and go trips with some towing here and there. I the only time o really look at my OLM now is to reset it back to 100.

If you're running B20, x2 on changing out at 5k miles. We only have B2 to more likely B5 fuel here.

I have found that it does work pretty well. When I had the F-150, majority of my miles were Rural 55MPH highways, very little city, 5% tops at the most, so there were times it went past 10K before popping the change oil soon. When I took a trip to Utah towing the RV, it dropped dramatically and was around 4500 miles when it was at 20% left. It knows what the truck is doing and adjusts accordingly. When we were stuck at home from the plandemic, my truck sat with less than 1000 miles put on it and the last oil change was a month before the closings, so not a lot of miles on it. Time is what kicked in, 1 year since the oil was last changed, it popped the change oil soon message.

What it doesn't know is what condition the oil is, just how the engine was used and based off the OEM oil parameters, so if you use cheap oil that doesn't meet specs and go by the IOLM, you are not doing the engine any good. Experience is the best use case for oil intervals, no one knows your truck and how it is used than you, so change it when you know it is best. My use case, using good oil that exceeds specs, and doing an analysis to confirm, I can go by the IOLM based on how I use the truck.
