I have a 1978 F150 with the "full time" 4x4 NP203 T case. I would like to convert it to "part time" NP205 T case. I have located a couple used T cases and look to be good options and I already have the manual lockouts in the front hubs. So just looking secrets or tips I should know to complete the switch and before I buy a different case. Thank you for assistance in advance.
NP205 is gear driven vs chain drive and is a much better transfer case all around in my opinion. Good luck with the swap.
The only suggestion I have is make sure you have a sturdy transmission jack and do plenty of stretching exercises before removing that NP203. Those things are heavy!!!
Take note of your transmission, and then do a lot of research and make sure when you buy the NP-205 you get the correct trans adapter. Meaning the part that lets you bolt the xfer case to the transmission. I believe there is a difference in length based off what trans you have. Meaning manual or auto, and possibly a bolt up configuration difference. I do not know if your current NP-203 adapter will work. And the worse time to discover you need more/different parts is when the xfer case is setting on the jack. X1000 use a trans jack, that NP-205 is like 70 to 80 lbs and a great way to crush a finger or even break an arm if it goes real bad.
Auto C-6 long one? : https://www.ebay.com/itm/14478288890...hoCN_IQAvD_BwE
Transfer case shifter linkage is different and the drive shafts will not work, not sure about the frame mount.
If we are talking about a C6 automatic, in general full time 203 C6's had the short tail and part time 205 had the long tail.
