Well, my 1983 F-150 project truck has drawn first blood. Trying to install a no smog vac advance distributor. What a pain... I've dropped the hold down bolt, and naturally I can't find it... 351 Windsor, what size bolt will fit?
Didn't it take a 1/2 inch wrench? If it did, try a 5/16-18 bolt. That is a coarse thread bolt. I can't remember if it's coarse thread or fine thread. If it's fine thread, and it took a 1/2 wrench, then that would be a 5/16-24.
Yes, it did take a 1/2" wrench. I actually found the bolt and clamp under the truck, and measured it before trying again. I found the bolt was indeed a 5/16-18 thread. Then, I promptly dropped the bolt again. Still haven't found it. At least I have the clamp. Tomorrow I'll take the distributor back out and install a stud instead. Should make installing easier.
Because I'm 73 and not as dexterous as I used to be. I'll put a rag in the distributor hole to keep from dropping the stud down there. "If it was easy, everyone would do it..."
