Fuel selector valve bypass

Morning everyone, I have an 86 F250HD with a 351ho and dual tanks. My truck has the 3 port mechanical pump setup with a return. My rear tank is rusted so I run off the front tank. I believe my selector valve is bad because it's leaking fresh gas out of the rusted back tank and I'm going through gas ridiculously fast. Is there a way to unhook the fuel lines from the selector valve that goes to the front tank and hook them directly to the tank using the factory clips? I didn't know if it would work that way or not. I thought that it would be a quick and easy fix and still allow me the option to hook it back up if I got another valve and rear tank. Any help is appreciated

Just disconnect and plug the lines to the rear tank separately, do not loop any of them together.

Whether you have plastic lines or steel, you can buy a couple of feet of 3/8 fuel line and 5/16 fuel line. Pick the good tank and take it's lines off the fuel valve. Then take the lines off the valve that go up front to the fuel pump. Take your pieces of hose and connect the front lines to the lines of the good tank. The large line will go to the large line (supply line) and the smaller line to the smaller line (return lines). Use hose clamps to clamp your new line. If you have steel lines do not worry about it. If you have plastic lines, shove the line up in the rubber hose, and then gently clamp down on it with the hose clamp. Don't get too carried away or you could collapse the plastic line. I have done several trucks like this with good results.

Keep the valve wired up, it still switches your fuel gauge. So you will need to keep it on the tank you are using so the fuel gauge will read properly.
