I'm swapping axles into my 97 F350. I was hoping someone, maybe who works at Ford, could provide some more detailed into. Im new at this but I've seen info sheets with very detailed part numbers, etc of everything on the truck, a LOT more info than I can find just running the VIN thru Google.
All the info I have from the donor chassis I bought are as follows. 2012 F350 C&C VIN- 1FDRF3HT6CEA89842. Axle code- 4N. Axle tag #s- Front- 4 10 BC34-EE 201 3982 2. Rear- 4 10 BC34-EE 2013831-2-L-S.
I believe it is not a Super 60 but cant confirm it. I need to buy some parts and am looking for some 3.54 highway gears for it and dont know if Super 60s take the same as regular 60 front axles.
The axles are not made by Ford, they are purchased as an assembly from DANA/Spicer. You need to get the stamped BOM number off the axle tube, i believe it's the Pass side tube, and look it up on the Spicer/DANA website to get a detailed parts breakdown.
Super D60 uses a 10" ring gear, D60 uses a 9 3/4" gear. You can mount SD60 gears in a D60 housing with some grinding to clearance the housing, which means the carriers are probably the same, so i would assume the D60 gears will fit in the SD60 without an issue. You'll lose some of the strength advantage of the larger SD60 ring gear.
I was trying to find a DANA/Spicer SD60 4.10 gear set last summer and everything was unavailable back then. You might be better off selling that axle and buying another, or trading it, with one with the right gears. I've worked trades with local auto parts yards where i swapped hat i had for what i wanted, and worked out the difference in values in cash.
