big 1/4mile question?

I have an original 67 ford f-100 longbed, 352 FE 3speed column shift, 208HP and 315 Lb. Ft. of torque, stock

my friend has the same truck a 67 ford f-100 longbed,
Motor: 352 FE bored 60 over
slightly ported stock heads
mild street cam, i think around .400 exhaust lift near the same intake lift, the crank was turned 10/10 and everything was rebuilt just recently not very many miles on it
he has dynomax headers 1 3/4 into 3" with 2.5" duals through Thrush glasspacks
Holley 2 barrell 500cfm
He also has a 3 on the tree, which he might switch over to floor

If we both run the 1/4 mile, what would be an average time for both of us, I have a little bet going, so please give me good info, from experience, what will we run?

Thank you

You'll also need to factor in gear ratio and tire type. If you're running anything other than DOT slicks or slicks, do not do the burn out in the water pit before your run. Was your friend's engine balanced? Higher octane will give you a bit more power. I bet you'll be in the 18-19 sec. E.T. range. Your friend may get a slight better E.T. But I doubt that he would be close to a full second faster. With that three speed you'll have a big throw from 1st to 2nd. So, be quick on that shift.

We both have the ford 9" 3.25 gear in the truck, and are both running a 245/60/r15 on the back

This is more about the drivers and specifically the launch!

18/17 or a Pat said, 17/16.

Get to the track and let us know :-)

I recently ran my nissan 240sx at the track and got 17.5 and I know my 68 f100 is slower than that, maybe not on topend but definitely on the launch. I have a 360 C-6 fresh rebuild and a rather conflicting compression ration(11:1). running an RV cam and stock exhaust. I am making about 250HP at the wheels through a slippy tranny.

that whole HP to weight thing is the catch. put your truck on a diet, take every thing you dont need off ie, spare tire, jack, tool box, water bottles, etc. also put a bed cover on it to reduce the drag from the bed. if you take the tailgate off, you will save like 50 lb, but that has a negative effect on the aerodynamics, so it may not make much of a difference.

to get a better launch, hit the gas when you see the third yellow light go up on the tree.

hope this helps

Back in the 60's when, I would go out looking for a supper bad *** vett to race with my little 55 ford 2 dr cp 2,950 lbs with a built 406 I would get a few gallons of MEK from work and would mix a 1 gal. of it to 5 gals of 101+ octane gas . And when you go racing you don't have much gas in your tank. You will need to use an unlead additive and if you don't have harden seats, I wouldn't do this to many times you may like it and blow that engine up..
MEK you can still get it at most loco hardware's stores for 7-8 bucks a gal.

Well, my mail sever has been down all day.
MEK I'm not a great speller this is close MENTHOLETHYKEYTONE
it's one long word. I would say maybe 10-15, more HP I had the engine to burn that kind of fuel. My friend put it in his stock 55 2dr. cp 272 cu-in and that thing ran like a 312 T-Bird engine and it had over a 100,000. miles on it. He love that stuff. He used it about 6 times just street racing back then it was fun. When your young YOU have the need for Speed, thats ok as long as you race safely.
If you do this and still want to tweak it more you and rig up a by pass switch on your + side of your coil so it will get a full 12+ volts to the points from your Batt. only when you put the pedal to the metal it. Just remember that when you smoke those tires your not going any place faster. PS MEK was one part used back in the 60's for Dragsters fuel before Nitrotane fuel came along.....well hope this helps. Racer always lie if you play fare
you'll lose. It's just like fighting you can't win if you say you will not kicken in the nuts..lol

twist the accerator pump adjuster in the juicy way a bit more. Shorter tires= faster acceleration. If you shift hard enough these trucks will surprise you. A stocker could get into the 15's after one figures out how to get the beast to minimize tire spin...

Well go down to the old bone yard and pull the top off a old carb. remove float pull the jets out those autolite and motorcraft jets are the same. They run in size .048 to .056 these are the same as a drill size just drill them out a bit more to 0.70-0.72 for racing regap your plugs about .010 more to give you a little longer spark time. A hoter coil will help for sure. I use the big yellow supper coil accel makes.. Now go getten we'll all be wanting to hear about the big race PS wire open your heat riser if you have one.
