Hi guys! Just started attempting to replace the harmonic balancer on my 85 f150, with what i believe is a 72 351w. Anyways, I realize that the fan must come off first before im able to get any of the belts off of the pulley for the balancer, but I am having a bit of trouble.
My main question is: How exactly does the fan come off? I have already loosened the two bolts at the base of the fan, connecting it to the fan clutch/water pump, but the fan does not want to come off of the shaft for the pump. Am i missing a step somewhere? I was able to easily break those bolts loose but the fan will not budge, and the base of the fan with the flare continues to move with the water pump/pulley.
Usually, you don't have to remove the fan to remove the damper. But you do have to remove the belt(s) first. If you want to remove the fan, you still need to remove the belt(s) first.

Yeah i kind of realized this earlier, looking at the way things are set up. I am probably going to go the route of removing the fan so that things are less in the way. Once the belts come off of that pulley, the fan should nearly fall free, or come free more easily, correct? was just a bit puzzling taking the two bolts at the base of the fan out, only to have it not budge. Thanks for the help!!
