Hi i am going to be changeing my water pump . does anyone have know of a site with the procedure for this , or know it ?
1 The the fan is reverse thread right ?
2 The pulley that the belt sits on does it just unbolt and bolt back on or does it have to be balanced some how ?
3 Does the fan gaurd have to come out to get the fan out ?
No sight but I just did it. your fan unthreads normal, the fan spins from drivers side to passenger side the bolt unthreads the same direction. the belt held when I unthreaded my fan. pull the two or four bolts out of the fan shrowd once you loosen the fanthey are near the top, the bottom of the shrowd sits in a notch once the fan shrowd is free finish unscrewing the fan, it gets heavy quick when it drops off so be carefull, then remove the fan and shrowd together. replace the pump follow installation instructions, I fired the truck up without the fan installed got to operating temp to check for leaks then reinstall fan and shrowd simultaneous The pulley bolts on and off with four 10mm. Ensure that you get your fan on tight as it can unscrew when you shut down and chop a hole in your radiator that costs about 30 bucks to have fixed at the local radiator shop my bad.
Also borrow the clutch fan tool from autozone or some where. Makes job MUCH easier to do. I bought my clutch fan tool set. I had a "new" water pump fail 2 months after installed. Seal went bad and had water coming out of weap hole on bottom of water pump. Just take your time and you'll be done b4 ya know it. Good luck. If you have any probs look us up some one will help ya.
I got a clutch fan tool ,, so you just stick it on the nut between the fan and the pump ??? when i turn it it just turns the whole pulley and everything and won't losen ? what am i doing wrong thanks ?
My clutch fan tool turned out to be an 8 inch pipe wrench clamp to the thin side of the pully holding it in place and turning the nut. Just take care not to bend the pulley.
so i just changed the water pump .. i bought at re-built one it was very ugly looking very badly pitted ,, the surface that the thermostat sit on was dinged and scratched not at all smooth .. when i finished it leaked out of there where the thermostat is . i re-did that part and now its not leaking....... there is some play in the puley and fan is that normal with a new water pump ?? there is just as much play as before i did the job ? should i be concerned with the play ? The water pump was not very good quailty. i sure hope it last's.
parts like that I often stick with autozone for the life time warranty, I didn't notice any play in my part but that doesn't meen any thin, just keep and eye on it and your fingers crossed. the worst part is there is 30 bucks worth on antifreeze in there if you ever want to do anything.
