Question Changing Computers???

If you change computers will the odometer reading stay the same?

I am wondering if the previous owner had done this??

When you say computer, do you mean the pcm? If you do, I don't think it has anything to do with the odometer.

Yes, I ment the computer under the dash. There was one of the screws missing that mount the computer. Also a employee of the previous owner said it had a chip. The computer board had not been cleaned where a chip would go.

the odometer reading is stored within the gauge cluster its self. Changing the computer would do nothing to the odometer reading. However there is software available to reprogram the odometer in case of replacing one due to damage...but I suspect some people may use it to lower the reading.
