Does anyone have suggestions for a horn with a deeper note/tone? I really would like to avoid an air horn and just get something that goes in place of the factory horn if possible....? Just curious if anyone on here has done something similar with their horn. Thanks!
I did this. I used an existing hole in radiator cross member to mount horn. I kept stock horns. Total of three horns. Truck horn sounds close to an ambulance horn now. I used a relay with stock horn wires as the trigger for relay. I'm not sure if the horn is "louder" but it's definitely a deeper, more authoritative tone.
If you go this route you have to be mindful of the air duct/front engine bay trim piece. I had to adjust the mounting location of the horn a couple times.
I went through this a few years back. After trying several types of horns and siren style e-horn (Federal, Code 3, and Carson), they were all less or equal to the OEM at 125-130 db as measured with an app for car audio. After several different installs, the Nautilus horns were the loudest to me. Word of caution on the electric air horns used in the siren type tools: the manufacturers state that the electric air horn should be used in addition to, not substituted for, the OEM horn. Part of that may be the latency between pressing the horn button and the actuation of the horn BUT...I never had a problem. I did use over sized wires (8gauge) for the electric air horn.
After wasting a stupid amount of money, I found that the lower sounding horns were less attention grabbing than the OEM frequency horns at the same volume.
Thanks for showing me this. I gotta admit, the Elk horn is epic. However, for your username and our engines, I think this one is a missed opportunity. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2-M7ibVVTRw
Jeep guys got their wave, we could have our own scream.
I've never needed to use my horn, don't even know if it works.
What are y'all blowin at?
Same here. I can’t remember the last time I ever used my car/ truck horn. The only reason I know it works is when I lock the doors with double tap of the fob when parking at a public lot.
