From the 97-02 f150 5 lug rear. What was the lowest gear ratio available (3.50, 3.73, 4.10....) in 4x4? Would prefer the 4.10 is possible. Would a VIN character tell this ratio (which character) or do I need to read the white sticker for this information. What are the different axle codes for these trucks? I do not want to climb under each vehicle at the jy to look. Wanting to swap this into a 2000 Expedition. Looking to go to larger tires and swapping axles should be less expensive than a gear change. I hope.
What about changing the front diff? Is that more of a remove/replace bolt in?
I’m not sure across the entire generation spread, but I believe 3.73s are the lowest you find. 4.10s came with the 7700# trucks, at least late in the run.
Axle codes would be listed in the door jamb, as well as the tag in the axle, if still present.
Doing what you want, just find aftermarket gears. 4.30s, I guess, depending on your upsize.

Thanks for your help.
Yeah the front pig isn't too bad. You'll need to disconnect front d/s, both CV axles and then drop it out of the truck. I left ONE mounting bolt in place and rotated the diff here. The thread is about shift fork failure but it'll give you a very good idea of what you're facing (it's easy):
