2002 Ranger XLT 4X4 with 4.0L and manual transmission. I had an odd thing happen. I had a rear turn signal lamp out and decided this was a good time to upgrade to LED lamps in a number of areas in my truck, including the Dome Light. I'm not sure why but I not only pulled off the Dome Light lens but also pulled the three screws holding the entire Dome Light in place. After doing this I noticed a red wire just loose that was hidden by the Dome Light assembly. I didn't see any electrical connections on the Dome Light assembly, so
I checked the bulb types and reinstalled the assembly in the can ceiling. That's when everything went to hell. Now the Dome Light no longer functions, nor do my Windshield Wipers, the warning sound for leaving the keys in the ignition, or the Speedometer/Odometer, as well as the Air Bag light is now on constantly. There may be more that isn't functioning properly, but that's all I've noticed so far. This seems like a lot of things that shouldn't be connected on the same circuit, but there you go. Any advice or suggestions?
I've heard of problems with using LED lamps in places that specify incandescent lamps because the LED's have a lower current draw that won't work in some circuits that have a time-out sensor that needs a certain load to activate it, circuits with a dimmer control, because most LED's can't be dimmed like incandescent dash lamps & other circuit woes like cruise control not working right with LED's in the rear brake lamps position, etc.
SO, if none of your posted problems were present Before you made the substitutions, consider using the specified incandescent lamps where you've installed LED's.
If you're intent on using LED's, replace them one at a time, then activate the circuit & make sure its working ok with the LED in place, if not, install the specified incandescent lamp & retest to make sure things are working right. Some thoughts for consideration, let us know how it goes.
I think what I need is a wiring schematic that is more complete than the one in the Haynes manual. Does anyone know where I can find a complete wiring schematic for the 4.0L SOHC V6 Ranger pickup? I started to check the fuses but there is no diagram for the fuse box either on the vehicle or in the Haynes manual.
You might try your local library to see if they, like ours, have a subscription to something like Mitchel On Demand, etc, from which you can print, download, or screen-shot a page or two of what you need.
Folks I have removed the Dome Light and taped off the red wire hanging there. I have checked each of the fuses and found them all to be good. There doesn't seem to be anything that specifies which fuse goes with what circuit. I have looked under the driver side dash and could not find another fuse box. Still my wipers do not work, and here in the Great Pacific Northwest that is a real problem, my Speedometer/Odometer does not work, the warning light for the Air Bags is constantly on, and the warning chime (door open, keys still in ignition, and Head Lights still on) does not work. What circuit is shared by all these different items? Can anyone help me with the correct wiring diagram for my truck, as the one in the Haynes manual is completely useless. At the very least can someone find me a list of the fuses, the locations, and what they protect. I'm getting a little desperate here!
The 02 in cabin fuse panel is on the driver side end of the dash behind a removable panel covering. The Owner Manual page `197-207 covers in cabin & under hood fuse values & whats on that fuse circuit, so have a look in the Owner Manual. If you don't have one you can down-load one at no cost here Owner Manuals (ford.com)
Use, borrow, or come by a ELM scan-tool & running FORScan diagnostic freeware on your viewing device choice as discussed here Low Cost ELM Scantool - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com) as, this powerful combo can query All available vehicle computer / controllers for trouble code clues that can help focus a trouble-shoot, then post All code Numbers.
Library didn't have something like Mitchel On Demand that you could use to make copies of circuits your interested in???? Your Dealer parts man can do it if you talk to him right.
Thank you! That's just the information I was looking for. I had no idea the Owner's Guide was that informative, usually they are full of a lot of nonsense and non-useful stuff.
Well there has been a little progress. Thanks to the people who responded to my request for information, I was able to find the interior Fuse Box. I checked all the fuses and found the 10 Amp fuse at location 26 (Battery Saver Relay, Auxillary Relay Box, Restraint Central Module (RCM), Generic Electronic Module (GEM), Instrument Cluster), had blown. Replacing that got my Windshield Wipers, Odometer/Speedometer. and Air Bag functioning again. I once again feel fairly comfortable driving in the rain. I still have the Dome Light assembly removed from the truck, since I don't want to blow that fuse again. Does anyone happen to know the proper way to connect and reinstall the Dome Light? Photos would be very helpful as well.
Thank to everyone who has already responded to this post!

EBay often has the three Ford Shop Manual sets. It cost me $150 for my 2004 ranger. One book is wiring diagrams for all models that year.
Just Internet search for other sources.
