I assume

And when you assume, you make an *** out of you and me, LOL
I believe th

is to be one of two more or less giant washers for mounting the flywheel, One goes to the crankshaft side and the other to the outside of the flywheel ????? This is on a '50 F-1 with a 239 flathead

There is usually only one, on the clutch side (under the flywheel bolts). If a flywheel has been machined a lot, sometimes one will be put behind the flywheel (against the crank) to push the flywheel and clutch back towards the trans.

But the one shown doesn't have holes for the 2 dowels in the crank, so it can't go behind the flywheel. Does the other one have 6 holes?

Nope both have 4 holes so possibly one is more of a spacer than the one on the clutch side

Does your crankshaft flange still have 2 dowels in it? The big washers can't go behind the flywheel (towards the engine) if they don't have 6 holes. You don't need 2 of them on the clutch side, it would serve no purpose. Just set one aside.

Again thanks for the information, it is good to have a site to go to for answers. Will set one of the spacers aside if needed in the future.

Let me just add to double check your flywheel bolts to make sure they're correct and not too long replacements. If someone before you used the wrong bolts they may have added the extra washer to make up for the length. If you find they are wrong, I would recommend to get correct ones and don't just use the second washer.

Does your crankshaft have the 2 dowels? They are important.
