TPS has nothing to do with your ignition system. The only thing that'll make your tach bounce like that is bad PIP, ICM, or ignition switch. And since none of your other gauges are dropping out, it's not your ignition switch.
It could be a loose connector on your distributor, but you said it clears up near WOT, so probably not a loose connector.
okay. I thought you were being sarcastic, I’m sorry. This is frustrating. I am going to check the ohms on the wiring, wiggle the harness at idle. And get back to you. Ignition switch is new if you remember, I did replace it.
also, sometimes the temp gauge will wiggle a bit, but just the temp gauge. And it’s the single wire one that runs to the gauge. Usually only when it lurches or going over a bump
Okay I'm back lots of rain today so I had a small window of opportunity to get anything done.
number 1,3,5, and 6 spark plug wires have been separated.
I checked vacuum at idle 17 inHG.
Pulled the connector of the ignition coil, checked for corrosion and pushed the female terminals together for a tighter fit.
Checked the vacuum hose running from the map sensor to the intake its good.
I checked my firing order, it is correct. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
I performed a cylinder drop test, It was a little difficult to hear a difference at idle, but you could hear a slight negative effect, (drop in rpm/smoothness) by pulling the plug wires off individually. All good.
I wiggled the engine wiring harness in various spots to make it skip at idle. No skip.
I tried pulling engine codes, KOEO, no codes, CM, no codes.
At this point it started to rain kinda hard and I rushed thru the KOER test/Timing check, and did not read or follow the direction verbatim. Code 41 and 77, 41 is a low O2 sensor voltage, (lean) and 77 is a failure by the operator to blip the throttle for the dynamic test (again I rushed thru this)
I have yet to OHM out the engine harness, and tomorrow I will re-do the Timing Check and KOER tests. I am using an OBD1 reader and Book, really good info, but lots of hoops to jump thru.
I’m getting a Cardone Distibutor tomorrow, if this doesn’t fix the skipping issue I’m gonna take it to a shop. The harness seems to be okay Ohmed it out in a few spots, it checks out
