Erratic Base Timing. Calling all EEC-IV Experts!
Hello,
Have a Canadian-built 1995 F-250 5.8 with 190K miles that appears to run great but has a horrible suflur exhaust stench. No smoke. Engine has 170k on it and was installed by a shop by PO
1. Checking the timing w/ SPOUT removed has revealed that the base timing does not stay at 10 BTC, it looks like it blips up another 10 deg or so to 20.
2. Timing light flashes are erratic and slow as well--I verified this by testing timing on my other 5.8 truck and it flashes quickly and the timing on that one is rock-solid at 10 BTC.

I am thinking bad distributor, ignition module, computer , or even timing chain?? What is going on??
