Does anyone remember what the old markers looked like? Were they blue triangles? It's only been two days.
The symbols were the same, it's just they made everything super-bolder than before. To me, it just looks like a cluttered mess, but like any change, good or bad, we'll get used to it.
I also noticed they fixed the glitch with the padlocks where the envelope should have been on some threads.
Funny you should mention the Garage Journal. I was just going to post that their new forum software (new 2 or more years ago) is simply wonderful! When you click on a thread title, it takes you to the first post, or to the last post in the thread that you viewed, a very nice feature IMO, especially on active threads like the Vintage Pictures thread here. If someone Quotes a post of yours, or Likes it, it notifies you. Many other nice features. I was hoping they'd move Ford Barn over to the same platform, it is downright painful to use their existing stuff.
That feature might be cool, but I got the feeling the new look was too "bubble-y" or cartoonish, I don't know how to explain it. I just didn't like the way it looked.
I can see the use of the lock symbol on some other forums where a newby posts a new question on top of a 10 year old post. Not that anyone on this excellent forum does that. But when I visit the "Ranger" forum it happens frequently. The rest of the symbols waste pixels.
I don't know what you guys are complaining about. I think they are an absolutely fantastic addition. Seriously, I don't know how I've managed nearly twelve years of membership to this forum without them.
They're like a specialty tool. You can't truly appreciate how badly you've needed it until you finally have it.
...so true Ken. Surfing the forum is such an unexpected pleasure now. The graphics people at FTE must all be geniuses. The design they've come up with is so bold and fresh and yet still somehow traditional and respectful of what we were used to. How did they do it? It must have taken months and months. And think of all the meetings--and the money that had to have been spent. We are all just so lucky. To show how impressed we are, we should all hurry out and purchase Gold Club subscriptions. LOL.
Yep, lots of reasons for an update like this. Transition to new technology, 508 compliance (accessibility regulations), efficiency improvements so pages load faster, also just because and to be different.
I did notice a cool new feature:
That takes you to the first unread post. That's cool. Now I just need to get in the habit of using it.
We had that feature before the change. I used it all the time.
Does anyone remember what the old markers looked like? Were they blue triangles? It's only been two days.
To answer my own question, since no one remembered or bother to reply, and Joe (Harrier) take note, here is what they looked like before the changes. I liked the blue ones better.
I don't know why I never tried clicking on that blue icon. it does make things easier.
The black icons are just so stark. But the content is what matters.
