I just did a quick look at few of the other FTE forums. They all of course have the new symbols, but interestingly, they don't have a thread like ours reacting to the change. This is just another example of how our group is a little different from the others.

It's likely them that have been asking for it, this is one of the most active forums too I believe..
We are more active than a lot of them, and I like that. I think we are more "personal" too. People here genuinely seem to care about one another. I've had forum members send me parts--and pay for the postage too. We have a great group and a culture that is different from most on--line forums I think. I belong to a wooden boat forum for example. No one there ever gets sick--no one dies--holidays are never mentioned--and members don't meet up with other members. Everything is strictly "business".
These changes are conservative. You should've seen what they did to garagejournal, and a couple Honda sites I visited. It was a complete overhaul, nothing at all like it used to be. Different emojis, functions, quotes.,.....I abandoned those forums completely.
I think the updates are to keep the forums running smooth, like old computers becoming too obsolete to be usable, protected, or updated. Newer forums are easier to service and update and understand by tech people(IT). They run better on the servers/operating systems and because they are newer versions, they're more reliable(like a car).
I think thats the main reason for updated forums. Not people complaining "I want a new forum".
Yep, lots of reasons for an update like this. Transition to new technology, 508 compliance (accessibility regulations), efficiency improvements so pages load faster, also just because and to be different.
I did notice a cool new feature:
That takes you to the first unread post. That's cool. Now I just need to get in the habit of using it.

Uh Joe, those have always been there, just a different shape. How did you find your first unread post all these years?

Funny you should mention the Garage Journal. I was just going to post that their new forum software (new 2 or more years ago) is simply wonderful! When you click on a thread title, it takes you to the first post, or to the last post in the thread that you viewed, a very nice feature IMO, especially on active threads like the Vintage Pictures thread here. If someone Quotes a post of yours, or Likes it, it notifies you. Many other nice features. I was hoping they'd move Ford Barn over to the same platform, it is downright painful to use their existing stuff.

Does anyone remember what the old markers looked like? Were they blue triangles? It's only been two days.
I don't remember how I did it but I have the threads sorted so the newest is on top/ 1st page. There was a statement, still there to click to go to the first unread. I don't think it had a symbol before but it does now!
