Help with a 370 engine swap

Hi everyone I知 looking at buying an 82 f600 that came factory with a 6.1 370 v8. The engine was over rev and now has a hole in the side of the block. I知 not having luck finding any used engines. Wondering if anyone could point me in the best direction to go with this. Can I make a 460 out of a motor home work? I know the 370 is an industrial engine and had a bigger crank snout. Just not sure if it痴 worth buying the truck if I can稚 get an engine in it easily.

I'm not sure that the 370 used the large snout crankshaft like the 429 Lima engine did. I think that they might be sort of like what the 330 was when compared to the 361, a little lighter duty version without as many truck motor features as the heavier duty versions. If that's the case it probably won't be too difficult to make the 460 work.

What might get you is at the rear of the engine. I know that a 429 Lima is the same as a 460 on the back. But I don't know if the 370 flywheel will work because of balancing differences. 460 engines from 1979 and up are externally balanced and they have a weight on the flywheel AND the crank snout spacer. If your engine is one of these and the 370 wheel doesn't have a weight then it won't work.

My friend Wes' big Ford powered twin engine race car uses a 429 Lima crank in the rear engine. He uses a flexplate intended for a 460 application to mate it to a Powerglide transmission with no problems. This car runs down in the 5's in the 8th.

370 and 429 use the same crank, with a smaller bore being the factor in displacement.

what kind of brakes are on it?

a truck 429 should slide right in there.

the 460 will take some fiddling to work.

it has hydraulic brakes. Which I think it has an air pump for the power brakes. They guy who owns the truck told me when he started the truck he had to wait a min for the power brakes to work. And it痴 for sure not air brakes.
