Engine swap help

I have a 85 f250 with a 460 and manual trans the engine was bad when i bought it and im in the middle of a engine swap. Its a used engine also a 460 with the same numbers stamped in both block and head. Any way im having trouble with getting my engine hoist back far enough to get the engine to the mounts or fully on the transmission any suggestions?

Are you pulling motor & trany?
If so why both?
Did you pull the nose off the truck?

I did the engine swap with the transmission off the engine - and had no problems.
Is the lifting point for you hoist centered over the carb location?
Do you have a "tilt bar" on the hoist? Something like this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Torin-Jac...&wl13=&veh=sem
If your installing with the transmission connected, you gotta have the tilt bar, and then you may still need to use a floor jack under the tail of the tranny to scoot it back.

You may be able to set engine down on some wood block or such, in the engine compartment then reposition the chain to get more space to get engine rearward.

EDIT: I am assuming you are installing the engine, not removing. Installing takes a little more precision.

Dave, I think this is at the point of installing the engine back into the truck.

The hood should obviously be off as well as the radiator out. Where are you connecting the hoist chains to ?
Most use a single chain hooked to the hoist at the middle of the chain. I use 2 over-sized hoops at the hoist hook with with two chains forming a pyramid with the firewall side chain being longer to compensate for the firewall.

You could be right and if that is the case he does not have the chain in the same place as when he pulled it.
