76 C700 Shifting issue
I can get the truck started by holding the clutch down so I'm assuming that my clutch is fine. However, I cannot get it into neutral and when I put it into reverse it just dies.
Truck has a 360 motor not sure what kind of trans but I do know its a manual 5 spd with High Low.
Ive read a few posts about the shift rails possibly being jammed and heard that sometimes the 2 spd can hang up when trying to shift in and out of gears.
Today I will be pulling the top of the trans off in an Attempt to check the shift rails.
I honestly have very little experience with transmissions and worry I wont be able to identify the issue even if its staring me in my face.
If anyone one has any insight on this please post.
Be careful pulling the top off the transmission. You will want to place it and the linkage in neutral when you reassemble it.
inspect the forks and everything related. Post pictures if something doesn't look right.
The truck was definitely stuck in a forward gear. the middle plate that the forks are supposed to grab was stuck to one of the gears. I was able to move it back off the gear and it is free now. I am hoping this puts my trans back into TRUE neutral.
As for the shift forks... well you can look at the pictures... Do you know where I could get replacements?
I am now in the process of draining the gear oil in hopes of retrieving the broken fork and pads...
I'm betting this is a NP 542.

He's got a picture but limited parts.
Another one--you can search by np 542 parts and find more:
