2016 DEF capacity

It has been along time (4 years) since I've seen a 500 miles to empty display on the truck for def. I normally just add a 2.5 gallon jug before leaving on a long move with the 5th wheel. I don't remember the last time I put any in. A couple weeks ago it showed the display just before a move and I wasn't worried about it seeing it was only a couple hundred mile move towards civilization. I thought that the level would be low and bought 2 2.5 gallon jugs after arriving. I figured it would take 1 and some of the other jug. It didn't even take 1, maybe quart or so left in it. I would of thought with 5 gallon capacity that a 500 mile to empty display it would of taken more the 2+ gallons of def.

Anyone else seen or notice this?

I never had a problem with my 16. When I would get the 500 miles to empty message, I would put in a 2.5 gal jug, then start on the other one and maybe get half in or so I want to say...

But I normally don't wait until it gets down that much... I remember a Ford Tech here saying to add a jug full every 3k to 4k miles....

Some guys have problems by doing that but I never have... From what I've gathered from being here is that the 3 DEF level sensor system in our 11 to 16s CAN BE finicky when it comes to this but not always.

It's just been so long that I've seen a 500 mile to empty display and thought it would take some of the 2nd jug but suppose not. Now there's 2.5 gallons on standby when needed next, I'll just store it in the basement of the 5th wheel, now if I just don't forget it's there.

Thanks,

run it down to <200 to empty. My 2013 would then take one 2.5 gallon and almost the entire 2nd container.

Our gen trucks have the 5 gallon tank... Newer trucks have 7 I believe... Could be wrong though... 7.5 maybe?

This sucks because there is still enough fluid to do at least one more regen till empty. It would be nice to have a 7 gallon tank so you just add 2 boxes in winter and it wouldn't be overfilled. I hate having some left in the box which happens all the time.

There is about an inch of DEF left in the 2.5 gallon jug and I can't bring myself to throw it out but hate having that almost empty jug in the truck.

It would be nice if we could get a bigger DEF tank.
